iPhone Apps Are Latest Gold Rush
Like the idea that you can't upgrade macs, or the idea that you can't get third-party upgrades. There are whole stores and websites devoted to competitively priced mac upgrades, and from a large variety of manufacturers. And yet, this is probably the number one reason I get from friends for why they buy PC's instead of macs. They have this vague idea that having empty PCI slots (which is all you get on the cheap models anyway) somehow enriches their lives.
Same thing with pricing. Surely, there have been enough direct comparisons conducted by blogs and websites recently that it should be easy to inform oneself that macs are competitively priced at both the high and low end of the market.
Sure apple products are aesthetically pleasing, and have very successful marketing campaigns but at worst this is something to be ignored.
The only explanation I can come up with for these weird excuses is that the people who make them feel comfortable with their ability to use windows, and are afraid they would have to start all over again if they switched. The only thing worse than having to read the comments of a "noob" on a forum is the fear of becoming one yourself I guess. When I switched, though, I found myself spending so much less time dealing with malware, tinkering with the registry, and other such garbage that I actually had time and energy left over to learn how to use my computer better.
One last thought: why do I care so much (aside from the ugly brand loyalty which I will grudgingly admit to having developed)? I think it's a distaste for really bad arguments: I am trained as a logician.
